BARANGAY BALACBAAN
HISTORY Balacbaan is part of the Municipality of Tampilisan, it was founded on June 14, 1981 by virtue of Presidential Decree No. 86 – A, issued by President Ferdinand E. Marcos. The name “BALACBAAN” was adopted from the subanen tribe which was named after the tree called “TANGELE”. This tree is found nearly level land along the creek. As time passed, the tree has served as a footbridge lying in across the creek by the early subanen. This “TANGELE” tree footbridge has become the landmark and eventually became the name on the entire area – which in subanen dialect called “BALACBAAN”.
ECONOMY Purok 1 is the most populated with 335 residents which represent 46.60% of the population, followed by Purok 3 with 254 residents or 35.33% of the population, and Purok 2 with 130 residents or 18.81% of the population of Balacbaan.

POPULATION
According
to the 2013 census of barangay Balacbaan, its total population is 719 and is
composed of 157 households. There are 375 males, which is higher than the
female population which is 344. Majority of the residents of Balacbaan are
adolescents (11-19) and the older age group (40 and above) representing 19.19%
and 18.77% of the population respectively. The number of residents in the
reproductive age (15-49) is 344 and corresponds to 47.84% of the population of
Balacbaan.

LANGUAGE The commonly used language by the residents in Balacbaan is Cebuano/Bisaya.
LIVELIHOOD Residents are mostly farmers whose livelihood relies on the land/agricultural production of rice, rubber, coconut and corn.

GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION
The barangay occupies the Southern part of the Municipality of Tampilisan bounded by Barangay Poblacion on the north, Tawing River of Barangay Canaan, Titay, Zamboanga Sibugay on the south, Barangay Cabong on the east and on its west is the Barangay of Banbanan. It is 10 kilometers away from Poblacion and has a total land area of 655.1214 hectares and is divided into three puroks.
BARANGAY LEADERSHIP
The Barangay Council is composed of the Barangay Captain, seven councilors, one Barangay Secretary and one Barangay Treasurer. It is headed by Barangay Captain Edgar Matulin along with councilors: Hon. Ricky Pulaloc for Sports, Hon. Roger Alalong for Appropriation, Hon. Robencio Romano for Peace and Order, Hon. Carlito Buagas for Disaster, Hon. Aluna Balmoria for Health, Hon. Arlene Pacaña for Education, and Hon. Wilfredo Jerusalem for Agriculture. The Barangay Secretary is Jovie Lugatiman and the Treasurer is Elisa Omictin.
